Default Condensation on the outside of windscreen...

Anyone encountered this? Had it a few times last year in the south of France, in similar warm humid weather. I made it worse this time by spraying screen wash and spreading it with the wipers.

Pretty odd?

Thumbs up

Pretty common. It's where you're blasting out very cold air from the windscreen vents from the a/c, making the windscreen cold enough to create condensate from the moist warm air outside.

Thanks Zip. I was hoping the screen was faulty and I’d HAVE to replace the pebble dashed thing with a lovely new piece of glass.

You will get condensation on the outside of your windscreen when it is very hot outside and you have the aircon on cold blowing on the inside

*EDIT : Zip typed faster!!

I've even had it on tiny little hire cars in Greece on hot humid days.

I also had it on a Passat in Southern France in July about 10 years ago.
A first world problem if ever there was one.
I wish it was an issue more often.

Where I live, the humidity is always, oh, about UNBEARABLE percent. I have two 2004 D3 A8ls. The higher-mileage car does it more often. I think the seal(s) on the temp / mix control doors on the HVAC get leaky with age. Only cure is towel laid across dash, but I never think of that until it's too late. It IS maddening, especially as it is a nightly occurrence here.

When I lived in New York State, circa 1970s, one night I saw a 1960's VW Bug with five or six votive candles across the bottom of the windshield. I thought Wow, the guy must be a PRIEST! Later I told my Dad and he laughed and said "Oh, that's so-and-so; he's an engineer (at GE where Dad worked) and he's too lazy to fix his defroster!"
Lazy or SMART I wonder! Boy I have not thought of that in a long time!

I'm not sure if there's coding to set the HVAC for "Sweaty" regions, which would close the vents to the windshield, or if Audi thinks that some air movement is necessary there. Just last night I turned the distribution to manual and selected the dash & floor vents. Tonight I'll try to remember to crank the fans up to 11 and see if I can detect a difference (Hope not, as any setting besides "AUTO" is SO gauche!

P.S., He could've said Mass waiting for the candles to melt the frost. This was in winter in a state where we'd get 5' of snow overnight and still have school!

Did he have three on each side of the dash?
