The train sucks, dont go on there if you have 20mm spacers. I now take the boat every time. At least two times the delays on the train caused it to be not much faster than the ferry. Also price is the same, or more.
The ferry is special, a real treat every time.

Love the tunnel, my 8's been on there multiple times. The ferry is a different experience, but I'd take the tunnel every time, given the choice.

Ah, I never found it a tight squeeze, but always get directed to upper deck - didn't realise it was a bit bigger for SUVs.

Tunnel every time for me, however the delays are seemingly more commonplace on the tunnel.

Bonjour from Brantôme

But then I've taken 12 metre coaches big (wheel on each corner) trailers on there. Lots easier than reversing on ferries though.
The twice a week runs into Spain were a lot of years back, no tachographs then and we used to carry three log books each. Traffic is much heavier now, speed limits, cameras and Gendarmes are much stricter. I used to cruise at 110 MPH as well in those days. My big old Duple Dominant II AEC was a beast, slow to get moving but once on the way would rarely have to change down. On the way home on Sunday mornings I used to reach Wigan four and a half hours after leaving customs at Dover. Doubt that could be done nowadays even in S8s (legally that is)
I'm not sure it was legal to cruise at 110 then Ray Was it the big 12.4L AEC? Nearly bought a MK3 AEC Militant, beasty

No speed limit on the motorways in those days.
Standerwicks started the Glasgow to London service and it was scheduled at 100mph on the M6 south using double deckers.Lost a lot of time though with the M6 finishing at Junction 12 Gailey, meant they had to use the A5 to the M1. Only lasted a few years 'cos traffic increased and dogooders poked their fingers in.
Yep, it was the big beastie, Duple Dominant II, they'd started putting the six speed gearbox in, still manual, but shortly after they put the preselector box in. They were the ones that National Express inherited from the likes of Ribble and North Western. We had three of the preselector ones mainly for use in Blackpool during the annual halucinations (sorry, they call them illuminations).

Bonjour from the Gironde, as we head south to Spain from the in-laws' place in the Perigord. Haven't camped in nearly 30 years, and I'm not hating it entirely. So far.

Back to Grey Britain. The joys. On a more positive note saw this rather rare Citroen DS Break Familiale Luxe/Safari on the outskirts of Paris on Friday. How lovely.
