Lightbulb [COMPLETED] Bi-Xenon with AFS retrofit Audi A8 D3 (4E)

Hi guys
Here I will keep anyone updated on my retrofit from halogen headlights to Bi-Xenon cornering ones with AFS.
At the minute I'm halfway through this process due to having some issues with understanding the wiring of xenon range module, but hopefully that will be sorted soon so I can crack on with it and finish it off coz at the minute I got working Xenons/Bi-Xenons, DRLs and indicators of course only.

Still to fit: Xenon Range module plus additional wiring.
Not working at the minute: self leveling and cornering lights.

I know that almost or every A8 here has got Xenons or Bi-Xenons so it wont be much of a help for you guys, but hopefully someone one day will benefit from it because I haven't found a single guide on retrofitting from halogen to Bi-Xenon with AFS including wiring, locations and tips so I had to do everything myself including learning how to read and understand VAG current flow diagrams so watch this space if interested.

Thanks

Just managed to get latest (blue connector) Xenon Range control unit for £35 !!!

Terminal tool just arrived together with headlight connector cable seals, cotton tapes and some terminal connectors so I will crack on soon with this thread (I know no one is waiting for it due to this retrofit not being very popular, but there is nothing detailed online so hopefully at least one person will benefit from it within next 5-10 years)

I also managed to get the final wiring done (on the paper) so I'm getting closer and closer.

Just missing large and medium fuse terminals, CAN 46pin plug terminal connectors and already on order with audi 26pin plug for XR CU, retainer with buzzer, 2 M5 x 16mm bolts and 2 M5 nuts.

THIS RETROFIT HAS BEEN COMPLETED NOW 14/11/2016
Please go to page 2 for the extra wiring you have to do to the Kufatec harness just so you don't have to do this job twice like I did

If you are upgrading from AFS I to AFS II then all you need is wiring on the page 2 of this thread

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So far unfortunately I manged only to fit new headlights, wire Bi-Xenons and DRLs.

I'm looking for some motivation to finish it off or some helping hand
I will get there hopefully very soon, so this is the first part of the retrofit.

First you need to get the bumper off to get to this state.

Fit new headlights.
Important!!! Halogen headlight use 10pin connectors and Xenon and Bi-Xenons 14pin connectors.
That's why you need a harness from Kufatec
Connect your headlights using the harness and feed the wires as per pictures below.

You will need to remove the glove box so you will also need tools to get the CD changer out.

Wires will have to go behind the glove box, behind the central console and under the steering wheel to J591 on board power supply.

Route for the wires

J591 location and connection
Two wires with one contact are DRLs.
Single wires are Bi-Xenon left and right
24pin connector on J591.
Locations:
19- Left Bi-Xenon
20- DRLs (left+right)
21- Right Bi-Xenon

CODING via VCDS

[09] Central Electronics I
[Coding]
[Software coding]

ENTER 0143121 for Bi-Xenons with AFS and separate halogen P21W DRL with Automatic Driving Light with rain/light sensor, ENABLED DRLs and set to default
Change your coding accordingly to set up you have.

If you are going to swap your P21W halogen together with 501s sidelight for LEDs as per this thread
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7192
...then change 3rd digit to [3] IF you have AFS, but follow the above guide (wiring) so the DRL and sidelight are on the same loop

Huge apologies, but due to the all sort of commitments this project just has been completed, well, 99%
So a full write up will follow shortly

If you fitting just Bi-Xenon headlights then the above is all you will have to do

For AFS there is a bit more wiring but not a lot, just extra 6 wires to be run from the both headlights all together along with the Kufatec harness
You dont really need a harness, just two headlight plugs, few JPT connectors, proper crimping tools etc. I did not have any at that point hence the ready made harness

There is more to this write up, the AFS side, which I promise I will complete as soon as I get enough time, but as I said, just for Bi-Xenon lights with halogen DRL (which you can convert to LED) thats all what you will need

I haven't thought about it properly yet, now I have a brand new set of S8 headlights which use the same headlight plugs what halogen (10pin) headlights so probably I will just finish this guide as mentioned earlier and do another one for S8 headlights

Hi fellas!
I'm trying to do the same headlight conversion.
At the time I had installed the A8 DRL LED headlights , I've bought the kufatec adapters and the headlights are working. I have DRL, a have low and high beam , blinkers etc.
The problem is I have "Headlight range control defected"on the dash and the headlights cannot be regulated, I'm litterally killing birds in the sky.
I bought the range control module and harness but I have no idea how or where to wire it and make it work properly??!
I found your pics and guidance very useful but..
can you please post more info or pics on this part of the AFS retrofit?
Best regards and many thanks bro!

For your time:
