Default Fuel Pump replacement A8 D3 V8 Petrol

Hello all

I've unfortunately come to this point through scanning and process of elimination.

Car is A8 D3 2006 3.7 V8 petrol. Can anyone please help with any useful pointers of replacement.

I'm aware there are 2 x pumps. I aim to change the 'transfer' pump/ passenger side pump.

Is this a job that can be done at home (friend is a decent mechanic) before I attempt this.

I have done a lot of reading but a lot of the information is about the D2.

Thanks

Mostly the main pump fails first, the transfer pump usually leads a long life as it works only half the time.

To change the pump, it can be done at home in about 2 hours. You need to have the workshop manual for it though, which is avail on this forum.

Advice i would offer is to have the tank as empty as possible as you will be inside the boot inside the spare wheel well.

You will also need to make sure any tools you use to remove the security rings are covered with cloth as they can spark and start a fire if hit with a hammer etc.

You will need to remove both access panels and both top of tank access ports to get to the hoses for the pump.

Otherwise the rest is very straight forward as per the manual.

MCS - great thank you so much for the tips

I've had starting issues which leads me to believe it's not the main pump that is a fault.

Once the car eventually starts it then tends to run fine.

I have the documents regarding removal and fitting and I've been reading it through.

I'll attempt this with a friend who is more competent with spanners than I am but I can certainly help.

Thanks again.

Afternoon all, can someone please confirm that the correct relay for the secondary fuel pump is a 167 Relay?
