Ok I managed to come across this AMI kit and placed an order for it:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1508904506...#ht_760wt_1397 The part numbers seem to be the same as the other one, but this worked out £35 less compared to the other. Ok, so am I right in thinking that I can fit this AMI next to the CD changer in the right side cubby hole? If so, do I need to take out the glove compartment, or is it a straight forward thing to do? (Sorry I haven't got a clue, I'm buying my first ever Audi quite soon and just want the AMI for the icing on the cake.) |

You have 2 options...
1 - Use the full kit and fit alongside the existing CD changer. This is a little fiddly in pre-2006 cars as the right hand side of the glovebox is shorter. Dropping the glovebox takes 10 minutes, just watch out for the screws on the side of the dash, and careful taking the trim strip off above as this is easy to break. 2 - Take the CD Changer out, and slot the AMI in its place. This is what I did.. if I need to do an MMI update, then I can pop it back in (or if selling the car) as given taht I have a 250Gb HDD in there, I no longer need CDs. Now that you've bought it, you'll probably end up finding a car that has one already

The one i got needed a slight adjustment to the power wiring harness. I left the cd in place, and was getting errors which turned out to be mis-identification of he devices on the bus. Basically pin 4 needs to be grounded to identify media player 1,'with the power splitter neither was grounded, leading tomboth the cd and ami being identified as thensame device, so i had to transfer the ground pin into the cd power plug and all was well.

Ok thanks for the info guys. The AMI Arrived with what looks like everything I need except the car lol, which I am currently on the hunt for. I opted for the USB cable as I'm planning to just attach an external HDD for the tunes

Would anyone be able to ball park how much install would be for this. I have a facelift 2005/6 so I gather it could be mounted alongside the CD changer. Isa fitting specialist or reasonably routine for a competent combatant. Does anyone have any experience whether additional parts or cables are required.

take a look at some of the threads referenced in this thread, it a 5 minute job, maybe 15 if your keeping the cd changer as well, most dont bother
