Diesel purging...
Howdie Chaps and Chapettes.
I thought purging was a thing of the past, the thing your Grandad would do to his old W123 200D. But I've been reading more about it recently, and it got me thinking. This is only my second DERV, so I'm not massively experienced with them. Has anyone done it to their TDi, is it appropriate for the things, could it damage any internal seals? All the best. John

I would say no way hose. You would be breaking the fuel system and putting in unfiltered fuel. The tiniest spec will clog the injector. The injector is a very fine instrument with 4-7 invisible holes in the tip that fire at 400-2000PSI (depending on load). Can you imagine how fine these are? A bit of lint of dust will get stuck in it forever. The inside of the fuel system is clean anyway.

They did use additional filter in the video but I don't think this method will work on PD and CR engines with electrical lift pump in fuel tank, only with mechanical lift pumps which are part of main VP37 and VP44 pumps.

Won't be something I'll be doing any time soon. I don't really understand why purging would be needed, if filters are changed regularly.

How about filling a new filter (next time it's due a change) with the Liqui Moly Diesel Purge

I thought of using the filter itself too, but then would the new filter be full of shmutz from the purge? Maybe use an old filter?
