Constant humming noise with RNS on

Thanks for the advice folks, I finally had the head unit out just now.
It came out easily enough but the removal tools weren't all that easy to extract, needed some serious pressure on a couple of the clips.

There's a fairly obvious single (brown?) wire firmly connected to a spade terminal so I guess that's the earth referred to.

I have a DVB-T tuner to install some time in the boot, so I'll investigate the Bose amp earthing when I get round to that.

Problem solved. Though I'm not quite sure why. It's the TV tuner though.

Had the TV tuner out today and noticed that the hum increased markedly.
When I reconnected its power plug there was no change, but when I then reconnected the audio/video 10-pin plug it cleared!

So I wonder if that plug was not making a good contact on a relevant contact?
Or it could have been something inside the tuner as I've had it partially disassembled too.

The only thing I haven't done is remount the tuner back on its bracket, so it's currently loose on the rubber boot liner. I guess the mounting screws might just provide the route for some sort of hum-inducing earth loop, but I need to wait for the rain to stop to check.

I'd obviously forgotten what wind noise sounds like in an S8.
That background hum was a lot worse than I thought; I'd just got used to it.
Even SWMBO noticed on a run up (and down) t'A1 today that it was so much quieter and the radio sounded a lot clearer.

Another thing that I had noticed, and was probably a side effect, was distortion on loud bass sounds, that's totally gone now and everything is really clear as of course Bose should be.

The trouble is that when it's nice and quiet you do tend to go that bit faster.

Is there any point in keeping the TV tuner? Unless you convert it to digital, of course.

That's exactly why I'm keeping it; using the AV inputs for a digital tuner.
And, as I've now discovered, it hums a LOT without it.

At present I have a cheap eBay box that I've been testing off the car, the same unit as Limocello installed.
It seems to work well once you've figured out the oddities in the config and changed the default settings.

If I can get that to work succesfully using 1 of the 4 existing aerials I would probably upgrade to a decent "diversity" unit like this: http://www.lcdgps.com/4-diversity-4-...t-receiver-car

I'd like one of these, but the whole thing looks far too difficult for me. Why wouldn't it just be a swap for the analogue tuner, taking power, feeds and aerial from the analogue tuner? Or is that too simplistic?

It is.

There's a lot more to it to even enable the RNS (RNS-C in my case) to recognise there's a tuner there and switch to using it.

I have speculated about doing that in my other thread, but it's beyond my pay grade.

Though if you have a later RNS there are more options (and more convenient aerial connectors). What is yours?
