Default OEM appearing subwoofer install I built

Hey guys, meant to take some photos while building this and forgot, but I figured I'd post this to give some inspiration. Box is .7 cubic feet (minimum .6 with this woofer). 3/4 inch medium density fibreboard. Fit without cutting anything behind it. Lost the OEM Nav, but for N. America cars, that isn't a loss at all. Amp is hidden in the spare tire well/tool kit. 10 inch woofer BTW, a 12 inch won't work in this location.

Because I couldn't source a matching carpet, I recovered this and the battery hatch door with as close a material as I could find. I'll be doing the trunk in Alcantara soon anyway, so this material works for now (same texture/pile, just a bit darker, maybe half a shade, looks much worse in the photos than in person). Here are a few photos. If you have any questions on building a similar one I'm here to help

Neat install.. Does it sound OK through the car normally, or do you have a ski hatch open?

I meant to discuss that in the OP, apologies. I have a ski sack, but keep it closed. I also left the deck speakers in place. I'm extremely pleased with the sound. The woofer is an older Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1, a speaker noted for clear, crisp sound, and it certainly has that. I wanted something to add depth and liven the music not overpower, and it does its job perfectly.

Very nice install. If you have some instructions I'll add them to the sticky.

Bit late for that I think, but I'll see what I can scrap together for you.

So have you moved the CD changer or have non oem head unit?
Also do / did you have Bose and if so is it the Bose amp running the sub or another amp added?

Good question Dezzy.

Interestingly, right hand side panel of trunk/boot also has recess for the cover. In fact, Audi supplies 3 types of covers that fit that recess. If I were to install another subwoofer, I would use the right hand side of trunk space just because I have CD changer, phone antenna unit and some other stuff in left hand side recess.

I now have an RNS-E installed and use the SD cards/my iPod so see no need for a changer. Further, my car had a Symphony II unit, which I believe had the changer in the dash. So all I lost was the horrible navigation we had originally here in the US (not a radio unit, was in the cupholder).

I have Bose and maintained it. I tapped into the wiring before the amp for the rear deck speakers. That info I can help provide. I'll get the diagrams I used and post them shortly.

There were some requests to see the full box design from back, here are some photos of it out of the car. Hope this helps anyone considering building a similar design. Again, it's medium density fibreboard, screwed, and sealed with a silicone sealant.
