Default Recoding the Transmission Module

Sure you chaps have already done all this but on Audi Pages under Transmission you can change the behaviour of the D2 shift pattern.

www.audipages.com

Mine is a D2 S8 1998 Model and it didn't accept any codes. After analyzing it the S8 transmission has 001XX instead of 000XX. So after coding the transmission module to 00111 instead of 00101 it made a massive difference. Felt a lot more sporty and a lot less 'dumb'.

A subject after my own heart.
There is a member of AudiWorld KjellA, who swaped his 97 A8 for an FE S8 and bemoned the shift patterns on his new trans. On his 97 TCU he was able to bounce the needle off the redline without upshifting while in Tip and, once again, while in tip there was no kick down while under hard accelaration.

There was a change in TCU coding about the time of the FL or maybe a bit earlier as the only codes a PF TCU would accept were 00000 or 00010. From the FL onwards coding was available dependant on the market and it is possible to recode boxes to suit driving styles. In the midddle there seem to be some TCU on PF cars (my 98 S8 for one) that have a FL code. In my case it was 00101. KjellA found that hecould recode his TCU to 00131 which gave it the charateristics of his on 97 TCU allowing full control while in tip. As yet I have not been able to achive this as my TCU seems only willing to accept 00101, 00111, 00011 and 0001. 00011 puts the box into Limp Mode so thats no good. 00111 seems to make the box more responsive and a bit quicker to shift. 00001 dosen't seem to do anything that I can tell. I have some links at home that explain all the codes etc. I'll post when I get home.

I want the complete control codes on my box so that while in tip I don't kickdown and can take it to the redline and hold it there without an upshift. Work in progres.

Mine was 00101 and is now 00111 which as you say made a good difference. I'm happy with that for now.

The codes are on Audipages

My 00 S8 had 00001 when i checked. Changed it to 00011 and it feels different in the way that it autoshifts at 7000rpm at "manual mode" and i feel that its shifting earlier(lower rpm's) from 2-3 and 3-4 when doing the daily driving in "D"

Wondering if 00111 or 00131 would do me any good?

Would there be any risk in trying any of those codes?

Just record the original codes and if it doesn't work reset to the original codes.

The only code it accepted was 00011. And what a difference....

Finally it wont downshift before apx 1300rpm rpm in D and 1200rpm in 5.gear and 1000 rpm in 4-3-2 gear when in manual mode. And the fact that it downshifts more then 1 gear in D without kickdown is sweet as can be.

Gutta love this mod

I've just recoded my PF S8 from 00101 to 00111 and had a pretty similar superb improvement. See: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...7444#post47444
