Default D3 S8 remaps

(Not sure whether this is the right place for this, but here goes...)

So, having decided that I had foregone the search for the perfect S8 in favour of a full fat Range Rover, I find myself still nursing a plan to get an S8. Whether it will be in place of the RR, or in place of the D2 A8QS remains to be seen. But it seems to be an itch that won't go away.

For no particularly good reason I was thinking about the S8's 0-60 figure compared to the D4 S8, and things like the 760 BMW. Having it start with a "5" seems a bit passe these days.

A quick google of "V10 S8 remap" brought up - to my surprise - a number of outfits offering to add between 15 and 35 bhp to the power output, and sometimes to improve fuel economy as well.

I was under the impression that remapping NA engines for power improvements was a considerably harder task that remapping turbos. Has anyone got any experience - direct or indirect - of remaps like this for the S8? Do they do what they claim? And what are the downsides?

You'll be able to get a few HP more, but it's more about driveability where you get the benefit, it usually ends up being smoother..

Just make sure you go somewhere reputable.

As you say, on an NA gains will be minimal. I’ve heard stories of ‘tuning’ companies actually putting a hole in the torque curve, so it feels stronger when it pulls out the other side. My advice would be don’t waste your money.

Get a 760. Cheap as chips and harder on the eyes
