Default Strange noise after long drive, near driver side rear wheel

So the other day, went on a long drive to London, around the town, up to Surrey and around the country roads there before heading back up to Birmingham. All was well, no problems to report.

On getting back to Birmingham and parking in my driveway, as I got out there was a strange whirring noise, as if some kind of motor that felt like it came from the driver side rear wheel... lasted about 6-8 seconds then was off.

Never been able to reproduce it since, and no idea what it could be. I don't engage the parking brake often, and I didn't engage it at this time I parked up either although the noise was similar from inside the cabin, but much louder as I was stood outside the car.

Any ideas? Anyone had this before? Should I be worried?

I'd use the parking brake more often as it can fail, and be a nasty surprise come MOT time.

Could be something else, but possibly part of the calibration system for the EPB, mine can do tests for anything from a couple of seconds to a minute.

Sounds like it was the electronic parking brake cycling on and off to calibrate itself, it should have sounded like an extended version of the normal parking brake noise.

Mine does that after spirited drives through the windy roads near me. The parking brake has always worked while using at traffic lights, it has only ever happened when I have stopped at home. whirring away for about 10 or so seconds winding itself in and out by the sounds of it.

Ok that's good then. I shyed away from using it as I heard it fails a lot and didn't want to be stuck in the middle of no where sometime, but okay guess I'll use it more!

Yeah well from the inside the whirring noise of a motor sounded the same, but from outside it was quite loud, and having never had the EPB from outside, it was quite a shock.

Hopefully it is just that though Thanks guys
