Default Shake at 60mph

Hello guys

A new member here - I'll do a formal hello shortly and intro myself and the car properly but for now I simply wanted to ask a quick question. I've recently picked up a beautiful 2002 d2 s8 but on my first decent drive I found Some steering wheel shake at around sixty mph. Nothing below 60 and nothing above 60!

I'm wondering if it's wheel balancing but could be suspension issues.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

Mossy

Yeah wheel balance is the first thing to check. Depending on your facilities, either swap the wheels end-to-end and see if it changes, or just take it to a tyre shop and get them re-done.

If that doesn't help then its likely to be one or more of the 10 ball joints or 18 pieces of rubber in the front suspension. Track rod ends or the upper link arms are common culprits. Less often but still possible the lower arms. Any knocks or creaks over rough ground or speed bumps?

No knocks or creaks. Shake comes in at 60, goes away by 70.

Sounds like classic wheel wobble to me. I'd look in to getting the wheels balanced.

I'm sure the front two wheels were balanced fairly recently Richard and I can't say I ever noticed this! Possibly related to the front suspension bushes we discussed?

Try swapping the wheels front to back? I had to increase pressure to 35-36 to remove my wobble.

While your wheels are on the balancing machine, check them for buckles.
You have 20's IIRC and they, with their low profiles, are susceptible to pot hole damage.
