Hi fella,

Welcome to the forum. Love the TVR, can understand getting rid of the Bimmer.

Darren's S8 is the Mutts, one of the nicest on here. You will love it. As it already knows the way to all our meets i'm sure you would enjoy joining us for the trip to Germany?

Thanks guys, drove an early A8 4.2 last weekend & totally fell in love...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A8-4-...item19c6a0d37c

What's the score with these gearboxes then? Are they really that weak. Chap with the A8 said the early 4 speed boxes are stronger. Is this right?
Cheers.

hi wyn its good to see you on here. just love your TVR. i have always been a fan of them. my parents used to live near the factory in blackpool so i used to see a good few of them. i dont know the technical details on the gearboxes apart from what i have read but i am sure there are some on here that will let you know how good they are. i do know that when a gearbox is serviced then it has to be done correctly with the right fluids and filters or things can go seroiusly wrong.
hope to hear from you soon and hope to see you at many meets. as conan says it would be good if you could come to germany with us

4 gear seems to last longer. less gears = less switching= less slipping on changing =less wear= less debris in oil=less blocked filters=more stable oil pressure=less slipping=less wear to clutches. Hope that makes sense. Anyway boxes are not bad if serviced. What causes failures is debris clogging filters not just the main one but also small wire mesh filters which reduces oil flow and pressure and causes clutch slipping which in turn makes more wear and debris.

I was going to run mine to the ground and then do a manual conversion but now having second thoughts. I might give it a good service, not just oil change but remove solenoid/valve block and give all good clean making sure all filters are clean. It is still working fine just a bit slow/lazy when cold. By the way it is 1997 S8 DYM gearbox 130k no record of being serviced
