Its just 2 x 5ltr plastic fuel containers as I hope its just a temporary thing. I do have a metal 2(?)gal container labelled as " BP Redline" and stamped with the cost as "3 Shillings" (15p) - but it leaks... I seem to remember that 47P2 (John) had a similar can in the trunk of his Rover (since sold).

As a matter of interest if you were to do a fire risk assessment on your arrangement do you think that putting 2 gals of highly flammable liquid next to an electric sparky thing is OK?

I would personally be a touch uneasy about carrying fuel long term in the boot for safety reasons and because it tends to stink everything out however tight the cap is on.

If you imagine what could happen in an accident etc, container shot forward, splits, fuel everywhere..

That's why there are rules about what you can carry and approval of the containers.
IIRC max 5L in an approved plastic container, 10L in an approved metal one. Not sure how many in total you are allowed though.

Yes, albeit plenty of people are unaware of them.

Well, i hope that this is very temporary arrangement. I will run the car over the next few days so that it goes below 1/4 tank to see if the problem occurs again. The fuel containers will just be to get me home if it does happen. The fuel cans are ina separate plastic crate and is secured to the hold down points.
