Default Guide: Brake Disc/Pad Sizes

Guide: Audi A8 D3 Brake Disc/Pad Sizes

I recently had to purchase a set of front/rear brake discs and pads. There are various combinations of brake sizes which don't appear to be consistent against engine size.

I spent some time researching this and have found a reliable way to check which sizes you need without taking the wheel off and measuring it.

If you open the boot and look into the spare wheel area, you'll see a sticker like this:

These 3 letter codes are a list of "options" the car was originally equipped with (and paint code). Two of these codes refer to the brake disc sizes for front and rear.

The following is a table of relevant codes and their meaning:
- 1LL / 1LM => Front, 360mm
- 1LX / 1LG => Front, 323mm
- 1LJ => Front, 385mm
- 1KW => Rear, 310mm
- 1KE => Rear, 280mm
- 1KY / 1KZ => Rear, 335mm

As you can see circled in yellow on the photo above, my sticker contains the codes "1LL" and "1KW". This means my car has 360mm front and 310mm rear brakes.

Here are some equivalent part numbers for each size (these should be correct but please check before purchasing):

After a quick shop around using the above part numbers, I managed to purchase a full set of discs and pads for my car (front and rear) for £150 including delivery. I used Mintex for fronts, and Febi Bilstein for the rears, as they were cheapest at the time (but still good brands).

EuroCarParts came to around £350 for a full set of Pagid parts so it was a decent saving.

Yes, that was discs and pads for all 4 wheels

They were all purchased from eBay. I searched for the part numbers I needed from various brands (from the list in the original post) to see what was available. There are plenty of shops selling "old stock" at cheap prices, and also private sellers selling unused spares - I found Mintex parts to be most common.
