There wasn't - we never figured it out. The button shouldn't have had any impact on the gearbox itself. That one needed hands-on to work out what was going on since the symptoms didn't make any sense over the internet.

I wonder what he thought the huge silver button was for?

If i'm honest i'm not that up on Audi's apart from the 8's

It's not mine but i've passed on Chester and suggested calling them, they'll pass that on to the owner and we can hope.

Looks a nice car and doing a net search they got it for a good price, albeit knowing that it had a gearbox issue. I think they were thinking it was a simple garage job rather than what it'll end up being!
Hope they got it mega cheap. The C5 S6 wasn’t really a model to get very excited about. It would be hard to believe that in working order it’s worth much more than the cost of the likely required rebuild to be honest......

Dropping reverse gear was an issue we saw with a few if the early D2’s we dismantled. All boils down to a simple failed seal or something trivial at the end of the day but it’s the labour removing and stripping the box that is the killer....

I don't know the owner themselves, was just chatting with the Garage MOT'ing my A8, who i'm friendly with etc!

I've had a net search for it and them in general. It was up for £2.5k though wasn't really tagged right in terms of the S6 aspect. It's an estate so Avant, don't know if that helps....Didn't find any for sale, so don't know if adding a few £K on that makes it a good or bad buy!
