Default Ronin Aluminium Flight Case

Ok, stop me if I'm being too nerdy here ....

... but I was thinking it would be kinda cool to have a replica of the aluminium flight case used in Ronin to use as a toolcase, travel case or whatever.

Found this after a little research (images below also taken from this website):
http://www.thx-trailer.com/replica/ronin/ronin.htm

Searching on various flight case manufacturer's websites, I can't find anything quite the same. There are some that are a similar style and size, but nothing quite the same, especially not with the same style combination locks.

It's quite common to have flight cases custom made, so I'm considering contacting a manufacturer to see if it's something they would be able to replicate. A one-off would probably cost a few hundred at least, so I'm wondering if anyone else would be interested in owning one?

Took me a while to realise what you meant there.

I assume you're referring to the part where he (Sam/De Niro, I think it was) notices his hand was silver after handling the case. At which point, he quickly throws the case (under the nearest car) and it promptly explodes.

I never did understand that bit; maybe I missed something. How did he know that the silver paint (or whatever it was) meant that the case was likely to explode?

The original case looks like one designed to transport vinyl? Must still be available from dj equipment suppliers or retro stuff on eBay?

Hadn't thought of that. You're right, it does look about the right size for 12" vinyl.

I might have another search ....

1 - The previous (real) case didn't do this
2 - This was fake => dangerous => get rid...

That possibility did cross my mind too, but it seems a bit odd that while all parties involved clearly wanted to get their hands on this case at any cost, someone would make a cheap fake with an improperly painted handle.

Another thought that occurred to me was that maybe it wasn't paint but some sort of explosive powder. Still not sure why it would be all over the handle though.
