That's the plan, as noted earlier:

I noticed mine was better in dry weather, now it's getting cold and damp it's misbehaving more frequently. Consistent with worn/dirty/corroded contacts.

If you do happen to at least have a look at how tricky a job it is, please do pass on any suggestions as to doing it easily and effectively. Mine is going in to a local garage on Friday and all I can give them to help is the Audipages writeup which is for PF/LHD and 8-pin lead. Not sure how different that would be to my very late FL with 10-pin connector.

I'll not get to it by Friday I'm afraid as I still have the Titanic in the workshop. I can do a writeup when I do get it done though, if people would find it helpful

MJ: There is a very full write up from Audipage which is in the sticky at the head of this section - wouldnt want you to spend time duplicating work already done.

HP: With regard to weather/damp affecting the switch function, I gave my connector a good clean (even tho it looked OK) and it did, as I said earlier, help - for a few hours! Why cleaning it did that when the fault lay in the switch body is a mystery to me.

Polishing the car would probably have worked too. It seems they just like the attention and get moody if they're not pampered often enough

sorry andrew , missed that ; but as the forum's oldest member I'm sure you will forgive me

don't know if it is coincidence but as reported on my clean up post I~ used a specific WD40 product and despite a trip to the uk in the snow and rain it has been perfect since ; who knows if it was the product but the connector looked spotless [ 8 pin ]so I wasn't hopeful , the product comes out as a mousse so maybe it gives a coating

~I would have thought it was worth a try before laying out for a new part

Having not had an XP PC for a while now, my Bentley manual has been "retired" (hibernated).
But last night I installed Oracle Virtualbox and XP within it then fired up Bentley for the D2 S8.

Today I'll be retrieving a proper XP machine so that I can print everything off easily, but in summary it says:
1. Remove Left Transmission Support complete (do not separate mount and support)
3. Disconnect F125 and pull off shaft
4. Attach replacement, with several notes on alignment, centring, not tilting, not forcing etc.
5. Reinstall Left Transmission Support

There are torque figures for all:
F125 to transmission - 8Nm
Transmission support to transmission - 42Nm
Transmission mounting to subframe - 40Nm

It also clarifies that if ONLY one Support is removed the other will suffice to hold the transmission in place, otherwise you need a lift under it (VAG1383A)

I think, as the Audipages document makes clear that's a lot worse than it sounds!
