I have adapted the wiki destructions from Q7 to A8, but does anyone know what the Camera Height coding below means?
Mine is set to 04 +50mm on my second hand A8 unit.?

Audi A8 (4E) Rear Camera

Coding
▪ ?0x0xxx: Manufacturer
▪ 1 = Audi
▪ x0?0xxx: Trailer & Parking System
▪ +1 = Trailer Hitch installed
▪ +2 = Optical Parking System installed
▪ x0x0?xx: Camera Height
▪ 0 = Camera Height 1
▪ 1 = Camera Height 2
▪ 2 = Camera Height 3
▪ 3 = Camera Height 4
▪ 4 = Camera Height 5
▪ 5 = Camera Height 6
▪ 6 = Camera Height 7
▪ 7 = Camera Height 8
▪ x0x0x??: Model
▪ 01 = Audi Q7 (4L)
▪ 02 = Audi A8 (4E) Short Wheel Base
▪ 03 = Audi A8 (4E) Long Wheel Base
▪ 04 = Audi A6 (4F) Sedan / Rest of World (RoW)
▪ 05 = Audi A6 (4F) Wagon/Avant
▪ 06 = Audi A4 (8K) Sedan
▪ 08 = Audi A5 (8T) Coupé
▪ 12 = Audi R8 (42)
▪ 14 = Audi A6 (4F) Sedan / China (CHN)

Camera Calibration
After performing service work, the calibration has to be performed too.
e.g.:
▪ Removing and Installing Rear View Camera (R189)
▪ Replacing Rear View Camera System Control Module (J772)
▪ after repair work performed on rear lid following an accident
▪ after a vehicle alignment
▪ after performing a repair at front or rear axle

Prerequisites:
▪ Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and Distance Laser (VAS 6350/2) positioned as described in the factory repair manual.
▪ Vehicle must be standing on a firm and even surface.
▪ Tape measure
▪ Do not move the vehicle and do not operate the vehicle doors while performing the calibration.
▪ Rear Lid must be closed.
▪ Front Wheels straight, Steering Angle Sensor (G85) close to 0.0 ° in Measuring blocks 005.
▪ Ignition must be ON, Engine must NOT be running, you may connect a charger to keep the system voltage up.
▪ Back-Up Camera active and the MMI shows Back-Up Camera Video Signal.
▪ Make sure you do NOT have light reflections on the Calibration Device (VAS 6350).
▪ On vehicle vehicle’s suspension Level Control, set the Height to automatic.

[Select]
[6C - Back-Up Camera]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter 22351, to enable the adaptation.

[Adaptation - 10]
Channel 005
[Read]
500 mm is the basis value of channel 005. Measure the heights between the Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and the ground surface
(e.g. 80 mm for OE, 4mm for cardboard), add 500 mm to it and enter the final value as new value (e.g. 500 + 4 = 504 mm).
[Test]
[Save]

Channel 004
[Read]
20000 mm is the basis value of channel 004, 2944mm (wheelbase for Audi A8 SWB (4E) or 3074 mm (wheelbase for Audi A8L (4E)).
Measure the Distance between the Calibration Device (VAS 6350) and the rear axle (e.g. 1500 mm), and subtract it from 20000 mm minus 3074 mm
enter the final value as new value (e.g. 20000 - 3074 - 1500 = 15426 mm).
[Test]
[Save]

Channel 001
[Read]
To save your above adaptation save a new value of 1 to channel 001.
[Test]
[Save]
The screen will go black now and it will now take several minutes to calibrate - read on how to see progress...
[Done, Go Back]

Now watch the calibration status.
[Meas. Blocks - 08]
Block 130
[Go!]
Block 130 Field 3 (Calibration Status)
See popup for what each code means.
Specification: 0x0000 (Calibration Successful)
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Just the ross-tech wiki for Q7 back-up cam, pasted into text editor and then I got the SWB & LWB wheelbase from wikipedia specs and put them in. I have figured the channel 05 is the height of the calibration target (The Audi dealer tool is 8cm deep a bit like a folding pasting table.)

Once I'm satisfied, I will send it to them for the A8 4E page.
I also attach PDF of Audi instructions.

I did my calibration today.
It took a few attempts and I amended the instructions above.
The main problem was not waiting a few minutes for the calibration.

I can now see the bumper in the bottom of the picture, whereas I couldn't before so that's great.

The only problem now, when I adapt values for colour, contrast and brightness it makes no difference. The values are saved, but the picture is a bit washed out, even extremes of range have no effect. Has anyone else change the brightness etc?...

Is it by any chance also calibrating the light levels / contrast from the board.

Might by worth while doing again in different light conditions

It's a good question. Before calibration, I came to the conclusion that that must be a pre-requisite for adjusting the colour/contrast.

After calibration, all the levels were back at 50%, but changing them still makes no difference, even after turning ignition on and off. I'll keep looking into it.

It does say to make sure there is no light reflections on the board which hints to the possibility of light levels having a significant impact on the process.

Default Like my new table cloth

Decided to go a bit blue Peter today and print out the calibration board on a4 and stick them all together.

If it doesn't work it's no big loss
