Default Safe

I know I read somewhere about what the SAFE word means when its display near the miles but I can't find it now.

What does the word SAFE signify when its being display where the miles are?
I started the 8 and it ran and drove fine with no issues.
Turned it off and back on and it went away.

A quick google I found this on audiforums.com:

Per the manual:

"If an unauthorized key is inserted into the ignition lock, SAFE will appear in the odometer display"

"You may not be able to start your vehicle if an ignition key of a different vehicle make is also located on your set of keys"

It probably lost it's sync with the key or there was something else on your keychain or in the area that it also saw.

All I found was links to ebay.

Thanks for that. There is never anything else in my pocket.
The key is on its own in my pocket.

This happened to me the other day too. It had no affect on starting/driving either.

I actually meant to have a search but forgot all about it.

Any further ideas?

I think it's to do with the immobiliser taking a temporary huff with the key.
