Up around the sunroof/central interior lights there's a fair bit of suitable and accessible wiring.
The only thing to be careful of is that some of it is "sleepable" live, i.e. it doesn't go off immediately with the ignition but a short while after.
I recall tapping into sunroof wiring, admittedly on my PF, to add a dimming mirror.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Isn’t there a thread on here from Sean (Steamship) that followed his dashcam fitting to his D2? IIRC, it had photos that included wiring. I’m hopeless at serching the forum - maybe someone could find it and post a link?

I fitted a piggyback fuse in the fuse box and ran the wire up the pillar and under the headlining. I expect it's the same as Sean or another member here as that's where I got the idea from.

Beat me to it Jim. I did indeed have a thread on it. It is here:

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?p=85190

and the relevant bit that Ronin is interested in is this:

For the 12v feed, I used a piggyback fuse holder into the fuse at Yellow 2 (telephone/navigation).

You say you want a switched live. Check how long your dash cam battery will last. If you leave it off for too long and the camera battery goes flat you may loose settings. If the camera records when the car is bumped while parked you might miss that as well. I've used a permanent live with a piggy back fuze holder.

Just use an “add a fuse” and run it from the fuse box, I always run them that way, safe and reversible

I ended up tapping into switched +12V at the sunroof connector. I used a cable with an inline fuse in it. I didn't want to use the 'add a fuse' thing as it would involve running cables down the A pillars which hold the airbags and I didn't want to touch any of it. A 10cm run of cable from dash to the 12 to 5V PSU did it.
