Default Sorting Trim above the high level brake light

I've never seen this on any other A8, yet the way the cloth is wrinkled looks like it was done at the factory that way, but I fail to see how anyone would have accepted a car with it like that.....

Anyway, having blatenly stolen one of Neils photos of my car from the Open day this year, the wrinkly cloth above the high level brake light is really quite visibile:

The removal is really easy. It just levers up at the front, and then slips out horizontally. Heres a photo of the underside to show the clips which makes it easier to understand:

Here is a closer view of the rippled cloth once removed:

I was looking for something thin, yet firm that I could use to push this material back into place against the quite strong mesh that surrounded it, and the radio removal tools came to the rescue again as having the perfect profile:

So after a few minutes, one side is looking pretty well perfect again:

The other side was worse, and I decided pulling it out to start that corner again was easiest:

But again, gentle needing of the cloth with the radio key into the slot worked perfectly:

Another niggle all sorted

My '08 D3 did that. I think it's the constant heating and cooling that eventually causes the fabric to give up it's friction grip ass it was not glued - in my case anyway.

I took it all off and use a little spray glue very sparingly on the fabric to hold it in place.

It's been OK for a year or more and no sign it's been sorted

Yep... my 59 plate has it too... cant be arsed fixing it as I have the privacy glass and it's barely noticeable. Nice write up though.

Almost all the cars in Aus do this as they age, mine is just starting to show a crease.

The glue (if any) that holes the trim may have let go from heat.

Thanks for the pics, it will come in handy

Mike

I tried doing mine a few weeks back but gave up. The gap between the plastic housing of the brake light pod and the delicate metal grille was so tiny as not being able to get anything in between. Maybe I need to get some of those super thin metal thingies. Might have another go one day.
