Default Can someone explain why Audi...

...mention to have a 5mm gap between the Dampener pulley lever and the hydraulic dampener body?? This is in the service manual for the V8 cam belt service when reassembling it back with the new belt on.

Surely the hydraulic dampener will just expand up to the pulley lever in due course, so why maintain this 5mm gap??

It has to be able to move out but also inwards. The 5mm pre set gap gives it this range of movement
