Default EML - Oil Temp Sensor

Hello all

So whilst sat waiting at traffic lights, EML pinged on today, fault code reads as Oil Temp Sensor.

Before I head off to a garage next week, is this a (simple) DIY repair or will I have to sell a kidney?!

On some models oil temp sensor is part of the oil level sensor in the sump .

It should be combined level and temp sensor on 8 in the bottom of sump, it's not cheap and oil need to be drained, maybe 1hrs labour. Should not be more that £250 for sensor, fresh oil an labour in my opinion without looking for exact cost and you have not provided details of car year and engine.

Thanks for the info, not as expensive as I actually thought. Car is '09 D3 S8.

As an update, drove the car this morning and EML has not reappeared but was stop/start/town driving and oil may not have got up to threshold temp.

From what I remember when my cluster developed a fault constantly telling me that my oil is low, you reset it by opening a bonnet for 10sec and shutting it. Fault resets for only 50km/30miles, something like that. You cheating the system by opening the bonnet - it thinks you've topped up the oil and it will measure the oil leve for the set driven distance before it comes up again.
But that was a faulty cluster, don't know if same applies with faulty sensor.

Ive got the "oil sensor defect" error code not long ago.

I bought new sensor (from dealer), and also new oil and filter. Replaced the sensor+oil/filter and now i get a different error message in VCDS.

P0198 - Signal too High

Is there a fuse anywhere that i can check that hooked up to the sensor? Anyone know where it is?

Anyone have received this error code before?

Also get ESP error, and ACC is not available due to this.

Regards
Kenneth
