V8 BFM water loss at oil cooler
Does anyone on here have any practical experience in fixing the water loss issue on the V8 BFM engine where the plastic pipe between the block and the oil cooler assembly gives up. I'm told that the engine and box need to come out ( or at least be pulled forward ) so that the coolant pipe that goes into the top part of the oil cooler can be undone because it obscures the bolts.

Ah, the 'Accountants Folly'. Very common failure on the D2's as the plastic pipe gets brittle with age. As the D3's get older it will start affecting them more and more...
As to how hard the job is on a D3, I can't help you, but it's a prick of a job on the D2. If the engine mount bracket is similar, you might be able to do in en-situ, maybe by removing the engine mount bracket. Just make sure you replace it with a metal pipe, such as: Bufkin Pipe or Gruven Pipe Or Read this thread as forum member Jeffrey is turning some up for sale at the annual meet.

Thanks Marty,
This "design" flaw sucks, the issue that I have is that according to the boom the engine has to come out on the D3, and that's 40 hours of labour for a 20 quid part. It would be good to know if anyone has tackled one on a d3 and would be prepared to take on the job, assuming of course that it wasn't 40 hours plus of specialist labour. also it now looks like there is a sticking thermostat or a head gasket problem.
