Default ETKA and elsa.

Situation is this, VCDS, ELSA, Etc all resided on my now dead macbook pro which was a pain to use in some respects as its a mac so I had windows 7 installed on it using bootcamp so i could run various other windows only software.

Within the Win 7 there is VM installation of XP that I had ETKA and ELSA and my Bentley manuals.

What I have at the moment is an Imac for the house/wife but I would like to have ETKA, elsa on it and Bentley would be nice too.

However I would like if possible to install them on Win 7 64bit OS

Is it possible, I thought I seen someone here with etka on win 7?

Would be grateful for assistance or guidance.

Thanks

I think Etka and Elsa themselves run happily on X64 but there was issue with Hardlock driver on x64 because it is not signed if I remember correctly but it might be resolved by now or you could use developer test signing mode. No issues that I know off on 32 bit.

Why not just get cheap used PC laptop with Win 7 or XP for the purpose. I have couple I can offer if interested.

I run ELSA and ETKA on Windows Parallels in windows 7 (2009 MBP with Snow Leopard) no probs. However, ELSA is incredibly slow and sometimes painful the amount of time to find the section i need (search facility not great). No idea why that is. ETKA is fine but i am now using this site for free (saves me subscribing via Partslink24 who is the provider in the UK of VAG parts catalogue)

Another PC? Why do you want to get it on iMac then, install it on one of PCs. VCDS is not going to be any good on iMac in the house when you want to scan fault codes on the road.

For more info try these, but you might need to register and get activated to get something useful:

It's not that fast on native Windows either on HDD, you need SSD if you want more decent speed.

Cheers man,

The reason for not buying another is I have sent the MacBook away to get a new gpu fitted so once it comes back I'll be able to do vcds etc.

Would like the benefit of browsing manuals etc and the comfort of a desk and bigger screen.

Thanks for the links I will have a look

Slow or fast is a relative thing and is down to ones perception. I have had Elsa on laptops from Pentium M to i7 and from 1GB to 8GB laptops, it seems that CPU and RAM does not add much speed to it but going from HDD to SSD improves it considerably. I think it is down to thousands of small files in Elsa database is made off and searching through them take a lot of time due to high latency on HDD, 15ms on typical laptop HDD vs 0.1ms on SSD(~180,000 files on mine and that is Audi only). Making one OS to run on top of another does not help either.
