T8 @ MJs
I took the Trader's 8 in to MJs today and I was met with this.......
Probably the greatest number of D2s owned by a single person! Yes, MJ now has 4! Mine is on the end in the photo but there is her FE out back!!!!  I shall have to buy another two now

My first engine swap after cambelt failure. 1996 4.2 A8SQ - Ming Blue. 178k on a cambelt! Trader's 8. Delivered to A8Parts at Lifex. 2003 2.8 A8SQ - powder blueish. Fill in for a while. Sold on. 1998 1.8T A4 Avant FWD. Ming Blue (there's a theme here), PEX for the 97 S8. And a list of non VAG going back 40 years before I saw the light.

For the record today was an annual service and MOT prep.
Planned work included a prop-shaft swap, rear spring replacement, split the custom one piece exhaust, fit an engine under-tray and handbrake cable change. The handbrake cable turned out to be a duff caliper, on a Sunday, with the nearest replacement a 2 hr round journey away, which I did while MJ completed the service. The nasty rattle that I thought was the exhaust rubber mount failed turned out to be a ARB C-Link.....which (of course) MJ had a spare in spares box number 146A-B1. So in 7 hours the two of us removed the exhaust, split it, fitted two new sleeve connectors, removed the prop shaft and all the associated heat shields, removed and refitted both rear springs, removed and refitted a rear brake caliper. While I was fetching the replacement caliper MJ did the annual service and fitted the under tray. We then refitted the prop-shaft. Put everything we had taken off back on, replace numerous fixings that hadn't come off in the designed manner, replaced with some non OEM but better fixings and fired it up on first turn of the key! For Neil; I only ate 2 Jaffa cakes and a bag of crisps, that's how busy we were! Took it out for a wee rampage, no thump when driving in TIP. No rattle on bumpy roads and the back end is a lot less saggy. Don't need to cross my fingers for the MOT tomorrow. MJ did the prep.

Trader's 8 now has a fresh MoT
Some slight shenanigans as the DVLA system crashed halfway through the test (wasn't me honest!) but I'm assured they will print out the certificate just as soon as it's fixed... I reckon that one on Gumtree probably is an FE, but he's a bit high on the price with no 20" wheels. With a blown engine, the interior is really the only big ticket item left since the gearbox is unknown and the calipers are undoubtedly seized. From the description I'd say its dropped a valve, the same as my FE did, so the bottom end will be toast as well. S8 engines are getting very scarce now so its very likely a breaker unless someone has a ratty body with a good engine. Can I clear some room in time to put a cheeky offer on it...?
