OBD port and Dash CAN

Was studying the current flow diagrams and noticed that the Dash Panel CAN High and Low are connected to the OBD port, pins 3 & 11.

Does the instrument cluster contain information / diagnostics that needs to be read with direct access which is not available via the CAN Gateway?
