Default Buzzing Noise

Developed a buzzing noise. Not really audible in normal driving unless your slowing down.

If you whack it in tiptronic boot it in second then let the revs run down you can deffo hear a buzz. Coming from around the heater controls / mmi area.

It seems to be related to a certain engine rpm which is why you can only hear it on the run down i think.

Any suggestions??

Chris

Give the dash a thump when it's doing it.. probably something loose that's resonating inside there.

I have a buzz that stops if I gently press the plastic in the bottom left of the MMi screen.
There is also a TSB about whirring sound from aluminium button strip which invloves removing it, tightening the prestuds at the back and applying felt tape. If you mean the MMI controls, try removing the ashtray and if still there, undo the two screws and remove the MMI controls for a trip.

Had a fiddle with some trim today, removed all the trim covering the pollen filter etc just to confirm its actually inside the car. Seems to be more the drivers side, pretty confident its in the steering column or worse the gauges :O

That small stowage box to the right of the column has a TSB for a 'whirring' sound. It involves removing it cutting off some plastic with a cutting disc and putting felt around some part or other.

The noise is NO MORE!

Found a 50p and 1p behind the cupholder lid (common change issue from a bit of google)

since removing the noise has stopped!

Just in case anyone finds this with google. My MMI screen buzzing/rattling got worse and worse until it was almost continuos on some roads unless pushing on it. I took all the trims and vents out, pulled the screen assembly and out and shook and tapped it and the only noise was from backlash in the mechanism.
So I greased the racks and cogwheels with Tamiya AW grease which is very thick like bastani, odourless and plastic friendly. It did the trick and is a bit quieter when operating too!
