Cheers Mikki,

Great analysis!
I can clearly see it now.
And I fully agree with you.

Why a 3rd car, could you not use your current D2 as a "beater", is there any structural damage?

That will be too heartbreaking to drive it mate.
Look at pictures with all that damage.

Sergey I often question my sanity about the amount of money I spent on my D2.
Perhaps one possible cure is to test drive a couple of really special newer cars, that might break the spell a bit. It kind of worked for me, my problem is that I don't have enough money for one of the newer special cars, D2 for me is still the best car that I can afford.

Obviously, the grommet was part of original cabling harness for boot and it is no longer available. I winder if there's a quality fix to this problem.
On my 'written off' car that grommet was tip tip...
The only possible 'solution' is MJ is currently investigating it. Two posts up from yours:

Does road salt really affect those trims? I thought it was mainly TFR in cheap car washes? I've waxed the unwrapped shiny bits on mine (until such time as I paint them all black) and they are staying nice, although mine doesn't go out much in the winter. I would think if you got the car ceramic coated and did the trims at the same time they would stay good for a long time, regardless of road salt. Just stay away from TFR

OK, 3rd party insurance company called Covea has returned to me today.

It's "Category S" write off whatever that means.

After some haggling they can pay £8k for car, BUT scrap value is 31%, which is £2480. 31% is 'non-negotiable'.

So, I can get 8k and pass the car to salvage company or get £5,520 and walk away with my "Category S" A8.

I don't think that scrap car value is as high is £2480,
so I told them to walk away and think about it again.
What you think?

P.S. Many thanks again for all of you who provided links to red S8 in Northern Island and 3.7 in Edinburgh,
which I gave to Covea as evidence

Sounds a pricey scrap value that.....

I also can't imagine that their first offer is their best offer.

Also, on that 3.7 - It looks it came factory with no dimming door mirror glass.

Factory options seem to be:

Sat Nav
Bose
PDC Front/Rear
Glass sunroof
Autodim rear view mirror

No TV
No Blinds
no Ski hatch
No Sports model
No Tyre pressure monitor
No memory seats
No servotronic
No Towbar
No extended leather

Build date 27/03/2002, colour is Ebony Black Pearl.

Glass sunroof was quite rare - but - standard on the D2 LWB, which again, is a rare item... !

Black, 7 Seats, Towbar, Homelink, Enhanced Auto pilot with Summon and self park, Heated front seats, CCS Charger upgrade, MCU2 Upgrade, Falconwing Doors, Self opening / closing doors, Netflix, Spotify, toys, Air suspension, alcantara roof + lots of other stuff......

The 17 year old Driver Wagon 2015 Skoda Citigo Monte Carlo. Alloys, Power steering, Aircon, Leccy windows, Sat Nav, bluetooth, central locking, cup holders, 59 whole bhp. Million times better than my first car. Well jealous.....

£8K is a remarkable result! Well done on that score.

The scrap value is also remarkable though. Even the guys who take them to Poland as parts cars don't pay that much. Half that figure would be optimistic tbh since the bumpers are both dead.

Do you have £2500 of re-usable parts in it? It would be a great shame for that one to end up leaving the community since you have so much good stuff in it like the RNSe.
