Turbos are £1.6k each from dealers. If it's leaking a lot you can have carbon build-up in engine if you keep driving and can clog catalyst and DPF. If they are leaking they will get progressively worse and can blow out seals completely at the end pouring oil out.

Definitely sounds like a problem with one side
Not sure if a8parts have any 4.2TDIs in that you could get bits from.

is there any way ov checking to see if its actully leaking? instead ov taking it to a garage. i had the dpf removed, but it may be there was nothing wrong with them and they failed to notice the turbo was leaking. it just seems im ****ing money up the wall, i think i will have a good drink to nite and ease my stress levels and not mention it to the misses, thanks for all the quick replys

I suppose you could take off intake and exhaust connections and check how oily they are and how much play is in the shaft but being unfamiliar with 4.2's I would imagine it's quite poor access and fair amount of work to get there.
If I had blown turbos instead of buying new from dealer I would send old ones for rebuild and ask them to make hybrids out of them, machine the housing if there is enough spare metal and fit bigger wheels. It would need a remap afterwards but should provide nice boost in power. The units you will get from dealer will most likely be rebuilds any way and rebuild to standard spec but if you go for rebuild yourself you can probably get upgraded bearings and seals fitted which will last longer. Not to mention it will be cheaper as well.

From memory, it's a bugger of a job, so the cost of the 'upgraded' units will be well worth it.
Any MOT station should be able to test and tell you what's coming out of the exhaust.
