Paid Ben £120 for a gearbox oil service, with all OEM parts. Had Audi do it once too and they did it for £250.

Ben done me recently, I don’t mean like that. I mean Ben serviced me recently, no I mean he pumped his slippery stuff into my box, it wasn’t quite as cheap as you had done Amar but I imagine he was doing you a favour, i.e. no labour charge. I think parts will cost around the 120 mark, the fluid was 97 bucks on it's own.

I have no problems or complaints thus far and would recommend contacting him in the first instance. I drove from Devon to Daventry for this too.

£120 were the AVP days, It would have been more for you as it would have been done at Revo's premises. Back at AVP Ben charged me £250 to remove/refit my box ( I had a gearbox refurbish co pick it up from him) took him under four hours in total to take it out and put it back in again. When I saw a cheap S8 with gearbox problems going cheap, I asked him for a price again, now he was at Revo, the price was £500.

Default Thread Resurection

Been thinking about getting a gearbox service, no problems or symptoms but at 82k probably worth getting done, phoned Mackies the official ZF Agents and they quoted £155.00 and they would do a proper flush with a squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber, (imported from America apparently) but said it could be done in two hours.

Also contacted Caledonian Trans, a Company set up by ex employees of Mackies, so I would expect similar knowledge and skill but they dont have the squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber, but did say it would take around four hours as the box needs to cool down before its done. They want £144.00

So as you can see I have a minor dilema, which ones are offering the best advice/service, the cost difference is so small it makes no difference, just keen to ensure I get the best service

Does the squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingammabobber mean they dont need the box to be cold?

Answers on the back of used tenners to usual PO Box No please

Thanks in advance folks

Brian, We talked about seeing whether they would do a 3 for 2 offer with you me and the Laird. (He would get the free one of course). Is there are savings they would make by doing 3 together?

Pumpy squirty machine should replace more of the fluid. If it's done manually, then you do need to measure the temperature of the fluid, etc. That's why A4Audi prefer to have the car overnight to bring it up to temp rather than let it cool down.

Considering getting both the '8 and the Volvo done, so let me know when yours are done.

£144and 155 are good prices if it includes filter and gaskets, around here it costs £200. There is no need for box to cool down other then it's easier to work around it while it's not hot. It needs to be warmed up after fillup anyway to check level.
