It’s the reason we bought our Golf from a private seller - finding someone crazy enough to spec a GTI to circa £35k means you’re not going to find one within the ex-lease fodder all the dealers have to fight over for stock. At least it gets ACC as standard!

Lexus have/had it right by having limited options and just speccing trim levels based on options. My parents IS250 SE-L has every gizmo going at the time! No ACC though

Is it predominantly a VAG group issue?

We might lease a daily if we decide to sell the S5 this year - considering a 330e but wish they offered an estate

I believe they are press cars, hence so many identical ones. Despite the common myth, dealers rarely spec more than an option or two as at the end of the day they have to sell the car for list price, and its tougher to shift when they're loaded up high with spec (and cost)

OV and OU reg cars in particular are generally Audi UK registered, so were build for a 'show off' purpose of some kind no doubt....

Interesting observations there Ian. I've been looking for a decent 2 or 3 year old S8 D4 for over 12 months and a couple of things are noticeable of late.
The prices are crashing. Yay!
There are increasing numbers available, but those with ACC, never mind the other 'essentials' have vanished.
I can literally find pages of them not one which will have ACC.
You've explained why, with the rise and rise of PCP.

BTW. I imagine that Audi make very healthy margins on these options and they will not just be sitting there bemoaning their disappearance from their balance sheet. Things will change, but for now we're stuck in a desert called D4 and D5.

In the meantime. You have more chance of finding properly specced cars in the in the 3 litre soot chuckers. Weird or what.

You could well be right, there are a couple of clear batches on OV10 plates, silver seem to be higher spec than the black ones..... was there an Audi sponsored event in 2010 they needed a fleet for!?

Mine sat unregistered in a yard/showroom, was registered as a 60 plate and bought by the first owner with a very low mileage, also a few tweaks to the “usual” spec, still has a “launch” PR code on the build sticker!

There is a (smaller) batch of “launch” spec face lift cars also, but they tend to be 3l TDIs engine wise.....

I know that prior to the D5 launch there was a survey of D4 owners I took part in to assess which options should be standard, which included ACC on the down side I think laminated side glass is now optional!?

A paltry £1500 (inc VAT) extra in my "New A8" October 2003 price list!

It was an absolute mandatory item when we replaced our runabout car (Focus) 2 years ago. Amazed it's not standard now on everything after 15+ years!

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I know.... available on every Audi bar the tt and r8 but somehow the worlds best secret. Pah.

Just now become standard in the D4.5. Sorry. The all brand new nothing like the previous model D5.....

And the Q7 vorsprung. And that’s it. Even VW chuck it in for free on loads of golfs and things. Sigh.

New A6 launch is just round the corner. Would be nice to see that popular motorway stormer pick it up as standard but I doubt it. Double sigh.....

Seems like I struck it lucky with a 4.2 TDi launch spec Facelift A8L with a S9T code on the build label then!

About the only options it doesn’t have are B&O, RSE, Fridge, Rear Table & Homelink.

Really would have liked B&O, RSE would have been nice but in all honesty would never be used and the others I can live without.
