Default Bluetooth Connection

On the way home after purchasing my car a couple of weeks ago, my son noticed an Audi Telephone under the driver's Armrest. It says under menu function Bluetooth, however, although I briefly managed to get my Iphone 4 to recognise the Audi phone, I'm not able to get this to connect or work through the Iphone.

Is it possible to use the Bluetooth function, or is the Iphone too modern for the setup in an 2004 car?

Any help welcome.

Everyone who has this handset expects to be able to use their own phone instead. It is not possible to link any other phone. The one in the armrest uses bluetooth but that's where the bluetoothiness ends.

Phone preparation was a more expensive option when new and quite an expensive retrofit.

I have bluetooth in the rs6 so technically if it is seeing it it should work!
There is however a way of syncing the phone to the car ........IIRC it has to be done with the engine off and the ignition on, the audi code is 1234 which has to be keyed in within a short time scale.

If you have a PF D3 with the handset, it expects a SIM card in there to run the phone. It's not for a 'bluetooth' connection except to pair with the handset. Bit of a pain. Your phone will see bluetooth as it's still that standard of communications, but won't be allowed to pair with it.

I did a write up on swapping the handset unit for a 'proper' bluetooth. It's not that hard if you're even slightly used to doing stuff on cars.

Don't you mean Bluetoothlessness? (in my case)

Thanks for all the replies!

I have a Sim Card in (pay as you go thingy), and the phone works just fine, and I use it for outgoing calls - great!

You guys are obviously right though, because nothing has worked in terms of getting the Iphone hooked up. Bummer!

I have a mate who has a business installing Bluetooth, Alarms, stereos etc, and he says Audi's are the worst to fit anything modern to, due to their use of individual amps etc everywhere, and to get the (my) A8 to take modern Bluetooth and Ipod connection requires a system (albeit one that will mate with MMi) is in the region of £400-£500.

So, PsYcHe, would you be kind enough to point me to your thread/write up to see what's involved in your other option?

Thanks

It's still a couple of hundred quid for the bluetooth module unless you're lucky.

Then I'd need someone to fit it.

I'm not too bad at all understanding all things mechanical and within an engine bay, but electrics? - I once almost blew the house up trying to wire a spotlight in my kitchen because it had 2 switches. I'm as much use as a handbrake on a horse when it comes to that stuff.

Could be then that my mate's unit that also has Ipod might not be a bad option. Will that affect the voice control functions? (for the phone only I pressume).
