Default Click noise when in "N"

May be a silly question and they all do this but, when I put it in "N",(at the traffic lights for example), when I let my foot off the brake there is a small "click" noise from under the gear selector, then if I put my foot on the brake again..same click noise..

Is this the norn, I've never really noticed it before but it may have been drowned out by the radio or something??

Cheers

Thats perfectly normal.
There is a solenoid inside the gear selector mechanism which prevents the lever from being moved out of P or N when your foot isnt on the brake pedal. When you remove your foot from the brake it makes the clunk sound and stops the lever being moved - then when you reapply the brake it clunks again and allows you to move the lever

Reminds me of a colleague who selects N and sets the handbrake in his Toymota Landcruiser at every traffic light as he'd never had an Automatic he thought this was the way.

I explained the concept is put it in D, go to London, put it in P, remember we are in Aberdoomshire
