engine/autobox issues
So I've had my d2 S8 for a couple months now have driven many autos but never v8 and just wondering if when D selected and sitting at traffic lights etc with foot on brake it sounds like the auto box is still trying to pull hard revs drop a bit but when I come off the brake it shoots forward instead of gently... Also when stoppee on hills I'm used to an auto box being able to stoppeehold it's position but this just wants to move all the time.
Is this normal behaviour? Many thanks an advance for any replies

Agreed, not normal, sounds like an engine (idling) issue.
On a hill mine holds and won't roll back, but with no throttle it just rolls away slowly on the level, e.g. at lights.

Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Does not sound normal, maybe torque converter clutch stuck always locked, wrong fluid in gearbox or too high engine revs.

Definitely not normal.
In D (or S/Tip), without the brakes, my D2 S8 will hold the car stationary on most hills. On very steep hills, it will creep backwards and on slight inclines it will move forwards slowly. I'm not sure about my current '8, but I seem to remember on my previous '8s (both of which were older A8s, rather than S8s, and had a cable throttle rather than 'fly by wire'), there was an idle switch on the throttle. If the cable isn't adjusted correctly the switch doesn't operate properly. Depending on the age of your S8, you may have a cable and some sort of idle switch. Thanks for the replies guys, i was generally talking about on flat ground it wants to move off quite abruptly, i have a slight rough idle thats for sure! but it doesn't idle low or high and when i put it in N from D holding the brakes it doesn't judder or anything just slips nicely into N

I agree with all the above. Can I suggest you conduct a scan with VCDS. This could highlight what and where the issues lay.

Gets scanned periodically and throws no faults apart from a lambda sensor, im thinking this is the possible cause for the rough idle as it throws no missfire errors
