Thanks, unfortunately those pics were taken a year ago and since then the paintwork has fell victim to a brake fluid attack

60% has peeled. Such a shame. Im currently deciding whether to get it painted or just to break it up/sell it.

Mileage is now 203k, ive just fitted a new timing belt, its had its gearbox done 20k miles ago and it has a recent MOT.

These factors are making me swing towards keeping it especially as fuel has fallen in price!

The car is a 4.2 quattro sport. Are any of those options standard?

The is one blank button on the dash but looking at the manual it shows an ASR button to be there for the FWD models? Bugs me i have a blank
ASR is anti slip regulation for the 2wd 2.8 and 3.7. ESP was for quattros but not available until 1997.....

Nice photos, but there's nothing 'faker' looking than a car with both 'S8' badges and '4.2' badges. No car ever came with both.... I'm not a big fan personally of aftermarket 'S' badging but each to their own...

Indeed, I got told off for that after posting pictures of my current car when I bought it a couple of years ago.
Funny thing is, it's a genuine S8 but also had the 4.2 Quattro badge on the boot.
I hadn't noticed, but it came off PDQ.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

that is a nice looking A8 PF, i am not a fan of the PF models but this one is really good looking and well optioned...sorry for the paint problem though, if you can have it resprayed for a reasonable amount of money it could be a long time keeper

Not that unusual - I've had two A8s in a row in that colour (a D2 and a D3)

lol That doesn't make it any less unusual, just less unusual to you!

It's still a relatively uncommon colour for an A8/S8, in my experience, though probably not all that uncommon in general; in fact I had a Citroen XM in an almost identical colour.

Thanks all for the nice words! Always thought it was just a "sport" badge rather than a trying to be an S8! A bit like an S line badge?? Everydays a school day though

Yes your right. I have since learnt from reading on here it seems the buttons only operate lumbar and headrests! So not proper adjustable then

Well ive decided im not going to. If im honest i bought the car back originally just to take my plate off and was going to weigh it.

But its back under my skin again since using it the last few months. Its just so good in so many ways for value for money/thrills/being content behind the wheel of one of my cars (very rare).

For me the D3 isnt special in any way. Just doesnt do it for me. The D2 although can look dated from some angles, the interior and drive always make up for it.

Theres also the kudos of having the first proper mega luxury car that Audi built especially with the whole aluminium theme going on. I wonder if these cars will be sought after eventually?
