I've not seen water ingress there before but I did have peeling seam sealer in the same place on my grey S8. I cleaned out any loose sealer with the dremel and applied some fresh stuff then painted over it.

Looks like it really is sealing a seam in this case so water is getting underneath and wicking in along the panels. It wouldn't surprise me if this is also the source on the passenger side too as it can run along the extrusion just underneath that area.

Yeah, I didn't think mine looked right. Not sure if it's an aluminium seam that has separated as a result of some impact at some point. Or it may be seam sealer that has come away. I don't want to break a piece of as I don't want to make it worse.

I think I'll probably be able to do a fix when I get chance to remove the wiper mechanism to get enough access to apply some sealant. I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Last year I had water leaking into the cabin that I eventually fixed. I checked my sunroof drains and they were draining but the rear ones were a bit slow to drain. I need to fix that. I had to clear out the two orange drains at the transmission tunnel. I also had to clear out the black rubber drains for the front wheel wells.

Since joining this forum I've learned a new area where water leak can happen called Botang's hole and air con drains. How many Botang's holes are there? And where are the air con drains located?

Plenum is the rain tray - from the base of the windscreen to the engine bay bulkhead. The main drain for this is almost inaccessible in an auto car, underneath the AC housing, but in a manual you should be able to reach it from underneath.

There's only one Botang's hole on the left side (same for both RHD and LHD). Aircon drains are the orange ones.

Is the plenum/rain tray area where the windshield wiper linkage is installed?

I'll take a look at the Botang's hole when I get time to and inspect the condition of it. Good to know that I already took care of the air con drains.

Is there any other areas to inspect for possible water to leak inside these cars?

Yes, but the water runs to the centre underneath the cabin air intake unit and down through a container with two large drain holes, one each side of the transmission.
The lowest part is number 26 on the attached diagram, the rubber tips can get blocked, as can the two holes in the plate above it.

Why did Audi put the front sunroof drain right above the door hinges? That is such a STUPID location for it! Both of my door hinges are rusty

I don’t think the guy in charge of drains on the D2 was ever a Mastermind contestant! They’re all pretty daft and inaccessible. The only trouble that I’ve ever had with all 3 of my ‘8s is the drains that exit through the wheel arched (now that’s tempting fate!). And it’s the daft ‘teats’ that are the problem - so I remove them!
I had Botang’s hole fixed when the control box was removed, and I’ve checked all the other drains now and again, but since the ‘teats’ were removed, the carpets have been dry.
