I'm sure I could write one. I'm on my 4th D3!

Best bet is to get a post done as a sticky.

A starting point, but I am sure things will be different for D3s.

And this guide for D2s doesn't seem to mention dodgy steering racks or gearboxes, just says to look for leaking PAS fluid - my rack went up the spout before any leaks started!

sitting here browsing the classifieds with my fingers crossed while waiting for my viewer to turn up.

Still fancy having a look at a 4.0TDI, but if I did buy, I'd probably get these plastic bits, that can get ingested in the engine, replaced.

However, I can't remember the life of me what they were - can somebody please enlighten me, again, and has anyone had this work done and if so at what cost?

They're essentially new manifolds, from memory, in excess of a grand to sort out.

It's the plastic swirl flaps (that the right name?), similar idea to the valves that are inside the V8 petrol. BMW used to suffer from it too.

It's intake manifolds, over 1k each plus the labour.
