Tbh I think you've probably summed up everything I wanted to know about it, in that its not plug n play. The pops are enough to put me off it, although it'd be interesting to see how it behaved with an aftermarket amp as I have had other aftermarket head units pop and click with Audi amps.

I wonder if the supplier would send out an eval unit for more tinkering? I've found a very nice Kenwood amp which fits in the stock Bose location, although it would probably turn the stock Bose speakers in to molten slag

I have a few ideas to try and fix it, If i won't manage it I can send the unit to you for a few weeks?

I've even went as far as connecting the unit to an android supported USB DAC, and connecting the dac back into the oem speaker loom which fixed the pops, but added hisses and weird high pitched sounds... lol

Icebox people have been the middle men between myself and the chinese manufacturer who can't really talk english well enough for me to understand what they're saying, but basically they blame the amp for being faulty etc while i know its not as it works fine with my RND-D

Another thing ive noticed on websites of name-brand android units like Xtrons or Eonon is that they say their systems support audis made between 1997-2004 with bose systems as long as the original unit is not an RNS-D... thats another lead to go off of. I'm not sure if D2's with BOSE and RNS-D came with different amps or wiring to D2's with BOSE and non-RNS-D head units.

Interesting about the RNS-d. I'm not aware of any difference in the Bose amp between RNS and Symphony. There is definitely something weird though with how Audi do the preouts and turn on/off of the amp though as changing either component for aftermarket has yielded odd results in my experience, hence why I have thrown out all of the original kit from my Murple and done aftermarket everything.

Once I have the Murple up and running it will be very easy to swap out aftermarket head units so I'd be happy to give yours a try and see how it behaves

I'd like to see the run-through of the menus and some operations within the different screens to see how fast the unit responds to input and how soon the sounds can be heard when a change is made. Also the reversing camera in operation and the sticker off the screen (so that the reflections can be witnessed).
Actually it may be good to see the filming of the screen protector removal so that a before and after can be seen (I get my kicks from things like that )

Due to the fact that it's not exactly plug-and-play at the moment, I can't see myself installing one but I am still very keen to see it in action.

I can see that the unit has so much potential.
But now, in the video, I can see exactly what you mean about the popping sounds and the reflectivity.

If only the manufacturer could sort out those two issues for BOSE systems they would have a winner on their hands.

I assume that the connectivity is due to a Bluetooth connection to your phone rather than a separate sim?

Wifi connection is off a hotspot created on my phone, bluetooth is also connected but its just for calls/audio streaming.

There are 2 cards slot on the front panel, 1 is for an sd card the other is labelled "gps" which i presume is the data sim slot, I can't tell as there is no instructions with the radio whatsoever.

There is also a phone mirroring feature on the radio but its absolute crap (it just mirrors your phone's display and phone can't be controlled from it) but its impossible to record with the phone while its connected.

I received an email from the chinese manufacturer saying that if im a 'competent' person they will send me some 'instructions' to try and fix the pop. I should have a reply next week.

I managed to get it all finally working properly with the use of 2x of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AudioPro-A2...tronics&sr=1-1

These are 1:1 transmission isolation transformers that magnetically stop all the pops, whines and unwanted noises whilist maintaining flat frequency response of 20 – 33000Hz (CD's being 20–20,000 Hz which pretty much is the actual human hearing range) which basically means the sound that comes out of the DAC in the head unit is the same unchanged signal that goes into the bose minus the unwanted rubbish.

I also found a newer more up to date ROM for the HU (this voids your warranty etc) which is much quicker and has tonnes of additional features, this is the run down of the menu:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrRkga1hwLc

I can finally say the installation of this HU into the car is done and if any of you decides to buy it, you just need to get those 2 filters and a 6-7mm 'shim' to stick under the radio (pic attached) to make it sit properly in place of the RNS-D as other wise it will sit at an angle and gaps arround the surround will look dodgy. In my case I used 3 strips of 2mm sound deadning mat.

I'd concur, a bose amp is a bose amp for as long as I can remember......

The only weird thing I recall about more highly specced cars is that the earlier facelift, with phone prep, had the Music audio routed to the Bose amp for all 4 channels as you would expect, but for handsfree phone (and I think sat nav directions ?) it used a small speaker at the base of the B pillar that was driven by the internal head unit amp itself.

It was a weird design and thankfully they threw it away later in the facelift and routed all noise through the amp as you'd expect....

Still, doesn't really explain why it would cause them a problem, as they could just ignore said speaker so its surely some other reason.....

I've just received the long overdue solution from china factory, but can try it only if im 'competent'

HI, the factory are slow to respond but i ask again and they say this

2, If you truly want to try, you have to find a controller cable from original car AMP, then connects to our board mute cable( but our mute cable is painted on the board, there is no cable outsid额)

I assume when you open our system, you can see cable which says MUTE and then connect this to the amp wire.

They baiscally want me to look up the data sheet of their chinesium copy of the AMP or DAC, find the amp mute pin and connect it to either mute wire of the bose (which doesn't exist) or maybe connect that mute wire in place of the amp on trigger wire. As you can tell im not too sure as their instructions are not the best.

There isn't a pad, pin or a leg labelled mute on the internal pcb's as ive had a look already.

Good luck to anyone who wants to do SMD work to get it to work their way
