Guys; some extremely useful posts here which I've missed as I don't seem to get email when posts are added to the thread I started!!

I THOUGHT there was a thread somewhere discussing the heavy duty connection from the front to the back but couldn't find it. Thanks for a) suggesting there was one and b) finding it

BUT, sounding more clueless than I really am; where is that box that you unclip and find the connection. I can't make it out from the photo ...

Julian

Its in the driver footwell next to the accelerator pedal.

To acces it you remove the lower a panel trim (runs from just below the fuse right fuse panel cover round the top of the sill) and then peel the capet back. The duse box is behind the first cable run you see

Thanks for the update SRG

Didn't realise from previous comments that it was hidden behind trim and carpet.

Will be searching shortly ...

Unhappy Found it but can't open it ...

OK; got the trim off, pulled back the carpet and found ...

... a metal plate covering a plastic box. Got the metal plate out but couldn't unclip the door as it's extermely awkward to see and get to behind the other plastic box there.

I'm too tall [6ft plus] and too old [60 plus] to stay bent there long enough to persist without hurting my back, so someone else will have to get the door open for me.

Interestingly, I assumed the other connector in the picture was the alternator output but the fuse is only 60A. Discovered later that it's the radiator fan.

So does anywhere know where the alternator output connects so as to send its output down to the battery?

Julian

I thought you were younger than that Julian.
I'll wait a few years for you to catch up.

Someone sent me a useful parts diagram for the electrics [attached].

This implies the alternator output connection forms part of a loom in the engine compartment presumably without the type of 'screwed together' connection in the footwell.

Had my alternator output checked; 14.1V at the alternator and 13.8V at the battery. So I'm still suspicious of the footwell joint but can't [yet] get it open
