Wing Mirrors Service
I folded my mirrors in this morning and thought they seemed a bit noisier and sluggish than normal.
I was wondering if its possible or if anyone has taken the mirrors apart and greased the motors up?

I've sort of done it on a D2, but not a D3.
Nothing there that you could realistically get at, but with the mirror disconnected and turned upside down I put large quantities of WD40 etc. into obvious holes and cracks while "exercising" the mechanism and it improved hugely. It's a while back now, but I think the first time I did it was totally off the car and using a 12V power supply to drive it.

Polestar performance "optimisation".  (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

That's my thinking.
I've noticed on other motors from Audi that they tend to dry out and need a good greasing. Thinking of doing it to my mirrors.

I think it's more the gear mechanism than the motor, combined with grit/dirt it jams the teeth.

I'm summarising badly.
 Dismantling wasn't feasible (for me anyway) - pretty much a sealed unit. I used WD40 and thin oil to flush it then topped up with thicker stuff and grease pushed in.

I'm rather hoping that the assembled expertise will be able to fix my "beached"
 OSR headrest.The ineffective whirring noises suggest a mechanical, not electrical, "disconnect" of "architectural" origin.
