Default Oops!

Well... I was pootling along just outside Peebles yesterday, about to overtake a van, then a boulder the size of a house (OK, maybe 2 fists) suddenly appeared from underneath it, and as I was a bit over the road... There was a nasty 'thump' and this happened

You were lucky nothing worse happened. Is that sort of damage repairable?

Looking at the pics on the powdertec website, they should be able to fix it.. it's got a bulge where the crack is.. Tyre looks OK from the outside (was new a few weeks ago!).

Suspension looks all OK when I had the wheel off and it all drives straight, so a lucky escape I think..

Should be fixable, don't know how much though.
I've got a distorted wheel, probably from a pothole, that my mobile tyre man took off and checked earlier this week. I was getting bad vibration around 50-60mph.
He's referred me to a specialist a few miles away who charge a flat rate of £70 + VAT to reshape and balance "most" normal distorted wheels - more for extreme cases (which mine isn't).

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Given a choice I'd bin a wheel that badly damaged - although it can be bashed back into more or less the right shape and welded it will always require serious amounts of balance weights

Worth seeing if you can pick up a couple of spares from somewhere or worst case use it as the spare if you have a full size alloy at the moment

That's an option Brian..

Powdertec did say they'd have to stick it on their balance machine first to see how screwed it is

Friend of mine had big bulge and nasty crack on the edge of rim that he got hitting kerb at decent speed while drifting out of roundabout. He used place near Northampton to repair it. It was £65 all inclusive was done in half a day did not need excessive amount of wheel weights and you could not tell it had been repaired.
