Default Boot opening/closing

i'm on a mission to close couple intermittent issues on my car and electric boot is currently on the agenda...

Issue:
- struggles to open up via keyfob. I can see that it pops up [by an inch or so] and then it cannot open up... few seconds later is shuts.
- i tried by going round the back and it does indeed work but needs some manual effort to lift off and it would then go all the way
- now closing is more of a problem... 8/10 times when el. button is selected just above the latch mechanism it does get a signal but fails to close.

i checked in VCDS for any issues and haven't found any... all hinges etc had been oiled using Lithium so i guess it could be down to the motor. Any suggestions?

The clutch is worn and slipping on your auto boot motor - you have a couple of options - either buy a new or second hand boot motor and replace it or take the motor out and it can be disassembled and the clutch can be encouraged to grip more by sprinkling some powdered violin rosin over the clutch plates to help it grip then put it all back together and voila! (Or should that be VIOLA lol)

The rosin can be bought on eBay for £2-3 for a rectangular block in a plastic holder. Just scrape some powder off it onto the clutch with a sharp knife

Second hand motor may be available via our forum sponsor (details on the header) or if they don't have one available then get the part number from ETKA or someone on here and search eBay for one

I had a similar issue to that you describe on mine. The dealer fitted a mod (2 plastic bits each side of the interior lid). Could be same issue but not nessasarily. I will post some pictures at the weekend.... Although on mine there was no issue closing, I have to add.

You can also try replacing the boot struts, easy to access and relatively cheap and will give it a bit more spring - often its enough to help a tired motor cope with age

couple things - can the clutch [inside the motor mechanism] be replaced? If so, what is the correct part no. and could it be ordered?

In the meantime i will try the trick with violin resin and see how it goes

Only bodge it or replace the whole unit, they don't sell bits for it.

The other thing worth trying is make sure the hinges are lubed and free moving.

Also there is reports of the hinges getting bent/distorted so worth having a good look over it all before you go splashing cash on a replacement.

It would be very easy to replace the clutch, IF Audi sold the parts... but they don't. I've done a few of these and I'm yet to see a "tired" motor, it's always been the clutch slipping.

I fixed mine with violin rosin for about a year and 10k miles ago, still working fine. If it stops working I'll just do it again, it's a 20 minute job after you've done it once
