Default Boot catch error

Morning all

Has anyone here replaced the boot catch? It keeps showing the boot as open when it is very much closed! I've tried cleaning the connectors - think there must be a problem with the microswitch.

Is this a simple swap out?

Thanks

Yup, done it more than once, pretty simple.
Can't recall the details now but IIRC you need to take the boot lid trim off, simple enough but a fair number of screws and bolts.
The microswitch can also be removed from the mechanical catch fairly easily; in my case it was usually a small plastic part of the catch mechanism that had actually failed. So I have a collection of spare microswitches......

Thanks HP.

Any chance one of those might be for sale??

Assume the microswitch in the catch in the bootlid not the boot itself?

In my experience (others may be different) it's a small plastic part in the body of the catch that fails. Due to the way it's constructed that can't be replaced, you need a replacement catch. Our sponsors should have one, give them a call, don't recall if they came with a microswitch when I bought them, but given I have two spares they probably do!

If you're sure it's the microswitch, I definitely have two on hand and am happy to post one FOC. You'll need to get the catch off the lid anyway to get at the switch and check it.

I donated one of those microswitches to Richard yesterday and showed him what needs to be undone to get the trim out of the way.
I think just replacing the switch (which he did later back home) has indeed fixed his problem.

You're welcome, I had two and no obvious use for either. I'm a bit of a hoarder and keep components like that "just in case", especially when they're easy to remove and store and might have other uses.
(Slightly off topic, but my handbrake sensor - a very silly mechanical contact switch that has to work to pass the MOT - broke and I replaced it with a spare magnetic reed door switch from my house alarm installation!)
