I may well just plug mine in, I've got nothing to lose at the end of the day.

Mine appears to work but I guess its hard to tell.
The battery has not gone flat yet.

It comes with the option to connect it directly to the battery.
You don't have to use the ODB port.

I've resorted to plugging into the front cigarette lighter socket and placing the solar panel on the dashboard. I have no idea if this will work, or the battery be dead in two weeks time when I next get a chance to drive my car.

One last thought, what about disconnecting the battery. I have an hour in the morning, I'll test that my key fits the boot override key hole and that it works first.

1) Check key works manual boot control
2) Lock car with boot open using central locking
3) Disconnect battery -ve terminal
4) close boot and make sure its locked.
5) pray I can open it again when I get back to the car.

All I can say Manny is when my battery died with no warning over night while car was locked, I was able to unlock the car etc, but I wasn't able to lock the boot properly after opening while battery was dead at that point.

I gave up on the battery idea, as soon as I disconnected it the alarm went off.

I've now passed the key to a next door neighbour who is going to start and run the car every 5 days till I get back. Showed him how it all worked this morning before leaving.

I'm back in the UK and drove the D3 today, leaving the key with a neighbour was the right thing to do. He ran the car a couple of times during the 2 and a bit weeks it was parked up, which did the trick. Checked the battery meter this morning, and it was showing just over 25%. Now i've used the car on and off today, the battery meter is back at 100%.
