Plug n Play Bluetooth Streaming/Cigarette lighter usage
Hi,
Being a technical luddite (as far as car electrics are concerned) I figured I'd get one of these for streaming audio/calls from my phone. However the unit keeps popping out of the cigarette lighter as I think it's shorter than a standard one. Has anyone got anything to sit correctly into the cigarette lighter/12V socket at the front? I was thinking of trying the rear 12V socket, though I guess it'll be the same size. Also, that would be fine for streaming music/internet radio from my phone but somewhat inconvenient for calls! Thanks, Jon '97 A8 D2 |

I had something similar in but got annoyed with it, the whole fm thing kept getting interrupted, in the end I couldn't beat the 90's style cassette adapter with the 3.5 plug stuffed into the phone.

Fag lighter sockets are always inconsistent and unreliable as a source of power. I'd install something like an Xcarlink unit instead.

I have exactly this in my girlfriends Honda Accord and it is faultless so i can recommend it . It might interfere with the dashcam if you have one .

Quick update. If it's of any interest I picked up one of these which seemed steep at £30 but seems to work particularly well. Add a £5 magnetic air vent phone mount alongside it and streamed audio/handsfree are both working well and fuss free.

I've just spent an hour rummaging around in old car stuff to retrieve and resurrect a Parrot minikit for the phone.
It's self contained and doesn't require a cig lighter plug. Managed to find a software update on the web and it now works with my Samsung phone. ...continues the retro feel of driving a year 2000 car!
