Default D3 Heated Mirrors Mystery

Wet mirrors this morning, globules of water, temperature +2 Deg.

Set off with demister full onto screen and heated rear window on.

Rear window cleared OK but mirrors stayed wet. Cancelled full demist and still mirrors did not clear.

Does anyone know the logic for them? Does this car load shed like my RR does?

I can remember seeing water vapour coming off my D2 mirrors as they heated up double quick!

I've got full VAG Com (VCDS) so can I do anything in there?

Stew

Load shed? As in turns stuff off to save power? Yes it does.

Though the D3 heated mirrors are pretty good, can't remember if the mirrors are on a seperate fuse or not though.

Yes, turns stuff off to save power to avoid draining the battery trying to turn everything on.

I'll look in Vag com for any faults and see if I can find info on fuses elsewhere.

If it turns stuff off you will see errors in the battery regulator logs.
Quiescent stage 1 - 6 along with date and time.

It is unlikely to do this if the engine is running unless there is another power supply problem.

I haven't read the owner's manual for my mirrors, but they seem to come on with rear heated screen, but sometimes I am disappointed with the performance compared to my previous Passat which had them on all the time unless the mirror control knob was turned from the centre position.

Owner's Manual P73 for mirrors says:

"The mirror surfaces are heated (depending on the outside temperature) when the rear window heater is switched on."

No actual temp mentioned however that will need a thermostat/control ECU somewhere.

Also no mention of where the adjusting switch position should be to allow mirrors to work. Pressing this switch seems to have a function ie it moves in enough to do something but I can't find any info on it.

The fuse lists in the owner's manual don't list mirrors, only rear window and that works fine.

Mine works when the switch is in the middle anyway... But never really noticed on outside temp as they're only usually covered to the point of getting rid of stuff when it's really cold.

I got a heated mirror, comes on with one of the bathroom lights, means I can see what I'm shaving in the morning.

Wait a minute, have I got the wrong end of the stick?
