Default Fuel gauge?

My fuel gauge seems to have mind of its own! As my car is lpg I only keep a little bit of petrol in the tank but if I let it go below about 1/8 of a tank when I park up and then start my car in the morning the fuel is gone and With 0 miles remaining.
So I put £10 doesn't move! Then £10 more and another £10 so then I can either drive around for weeks with 0 range showing or put in enough to wake it up then it goes upto about 3/4 or so and goes down pretty normally for a S8.

Anyway after a tipoff from another 8 owner about my missing petrol! After driving around for weeks not knowing how much fuel was in, I disconnected the the battery and on reconnection I now have over 1/2 a tank! So mine and another do it! anyone else?
This was driving me mad I was looking underneath for leaks, wondering if someone was siphoning fuel of me?
Cheers dave

You are not alone, i also run on lpg and find that if my petrol gauge needle goes into the red it will keep moving to the left even though i'm running on lpg. Like you I assumed i was leaking petrol, but was not able to find any evidence of it. It is odd, however if i keep my petrol gauge needle always to the right of the red zone the needle movement is never obvious. I generally put about £25 of petrol in when the needle gets close to the red and i this seems to last me around 6weeks i think. The amount of petrol i use certainly doesn't make me feel i have a leak and i know it's not running on petrol for long after starting because it's changing over to lpg within 1-2 miles. So it's not something i worry about now i just keep smiling about putting fuel in my car that at the moment costs me 64.9p/l from Morrisons!!
