Default Changing from D to sport mode.

Hi Guys ,
Why does the owners manual say not to change from D mode to sport mode while on the move. I haven't ever tried it so what are the consequences if accidently engaged while traveling at speed. ( A8 D3 3.0 TDI.)

I always change from "D" to "S" on the move. I don't think it does anything mechanical. It just sharpens the throttle response and prolongs the gear duration. Doubt it would have any impact and no idea why the manual would say that. Are you sure that's what it says?

Maybe I was reading the last line too literally . Thought it meant only below 5 mph .

I think that's explaining how to get into S from N, not from D to S (or vice versa).

I don't know about the D3 to be honest, but it's certainly ok to switch between D and S while driving in a D2; I can't imagine the D3 is any different.

I have perused the Owners Manual and my understanding from the written word is that you can select "S" whilst driving.
I do it when preparing to do a fancy overtake.
SWMBO takes umbrage as soon as I put my left hand on the selector, puts on her management face and says something like "Please do not throw me around". I dare not use the words that she actually screams at me.
